THE DYNAMIC YOGA
MODULAR TEACHER TRAINING
SYLLABUS
The 200 contact hours of the course present the first three of the seven practice Series of Dynamic Yoga: Vinyasasuxmasya, Vinyasaxakrasya and Vinyasaxikitsa. It includes a detailed study of over 150 yoga postures, 85 dynamic posture techniques (namaskar, ullola, vinyasa) , 7 bandhas, 16 breathing techniques, 7 meditation techniques, their underlying mechanical and cognitive principles, and their dynamic and inherent inter-relationships, taught in groups that reveal their inherent relationships and unity. The course covers the following areas necessary to safe and effective yoga teaching:
- pragmatic exploration of applied anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and kinesiology as the technical methodology of yoga practice . This aspect of the training takes place through a thorough analysis of yoga postures, ullola, vinyasa, bandhas, pranayama and meditation based on the utilisation of sensitivity to the pain/pleasure mechanism of the body. They are presented, explored and practiced in great depths as the indispensable techniques necessary to the integration of body mind and spirit. (130 hours)
- exploration of the textual underpinnings of classical yoga (Patanjali and the Gita) this is an exploration of depthpsychology rather than philosophy and clarifies the inherent agenda of yoga as a revelation of the unity of body mind and spirit the invites empowered surrender. (10 hours)
- theory of universal dynamics: all phenomena arise and pass away according to universal principles of manifestation which provide the basis for the cognitive principles underlying perception and knowledge and the biomechanical principles underlying action and movement. (5 hours)
- theory of applied anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and kinesiology: exploration of how physical action, movement and respiration take place relative to conscious awareness and intent. (10 hours)
- theoretical exploration of the dynamics of learning, communication, teaching and group dynamics: a profound, pragmatic analysis of how the body learns and how that can be used to establish an effective teaching methodology; includes an analysis of preparation, compensation, contextualisation and progression, aplied to both actions and instructions; clarification of the teacher/student dynamic; clarification of the principles of sequencing; etc (5 hours)
- theoretical exploration of the art of teaching by progressive instruction: this includes an analysis of the relationship of words to actions and their impacts that underpins the precision and consistency of verbal expression necessary to effective somatic instruction.
(5 hours) - practical exploration of the art of teaching by progressive instruction, and the application of group and communication dynamics. (50 hours)
In keeping with the inherent and indivisible unity of life, and yoga, most of these themes are interrelated with each other, and so actualy benefit from more time than the hours specifically dedicated to them.
